Pope Benedict XIV

Prospero Lambertini was one of the most learned and good-humoured of popes. His great work on the beatification and canonization of saints set the rules the Church followed for centuries. He began the practice of teaching through encyclical letters to the whole Church, and he was admired even by Voltaire.
