Pope Leo XIV

Robert Francis Prevost was born in Chicago in 1955 and joined the Order of Saint Augustine. He spent many years as a missionary in Peru, served as Prior General of the Augustinians, and was Bishop of Chiclayo in Peru before Pope Francis called him to Rome in 2023 as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops. Elected on 8 May 2025, he is the first pope from the United States. He chose the name Leo in the footsteps of Leo XIII, the pope of Rerum Novarum, to face the new questions raised by our own age of technology and artificial intelligence.
