Pope Clement I

Clement, third successor of Saint Peter, wrote around the year 96 a long letter to the Christians of Corinth, who had deposed their clergy, urging them to peace and order. It is one of the oldest Christian writings outside the New Testament, and the first sign of the Roman Church’s care for other churches. Tradition says he died a martyr in exile in the Crimea. He is named in the Roman Canon.
