Pope Leo I

Leo the Great is one of only three popes called “the Great,” with Gregory I and Nicholas I, and his sermons and letters are still read. His Tome, setting out the faith that Christ is one Person in two natures, divine and human, was acclaimed at the Council of Chalcedon in 451 with the cry, “Peter has spoken through Leo!” In 452 he met Attila the Hun near Mantua and persuaded him to turn back from Rome. He is a Doctor of the Church.
