Pope Paul III

Alessandro Farnese began as a Renaissance prince and became the pope of reform. He approved the Society of Jesus in 1540, set up commissions to reform the Church, and in 1545 opened the Council of Trent, which answered the Protestant Reformation. Michelangelo completed the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel in his reign and became chief architect of Saint Peter’s.
