Pope Urban II

At the Council of Clermont in 1095 Urban II called the knights of Europe to go to the aid of the Christians of the East and free Jerusalem. The crowd answered, “God wills it!” The First Crusade took Jerusalem in July 1099, two weeks before the pope died. He is honoured as Blessed.
