Pope John Paul I

Albino Luciani, Patriarch of Venice, was the first pope to take a double name, honouring his two predecessors. His warm smile and simple way of speaking delighted the world, but he died suddenly after only thirty-three days, on 28 September 1978. He was beatified in 2022.
