Readings for the universal ChurchGeneral Roman Calendar, used by Catholics worldwide

First Reading

Esther C:12, 14-16, 23-25

This passage is numbered differently in the Catholic Public Domain Version, so it can’t be shown verse by verse here. Read the chapter, or see the reading at USCCB.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 138:1-2ab, 2cde-3, 7c-8

1Of David himself. O Lord, I will confess to you with my whole heart, for you have heard the words of my mouth. I will sing psalms to you in the sight of the Angels.

2I will adore before your holy temple, and I will confess your name: it is above your mercy and your truth. For you have magnified your holy name above all.

3On whatever day that I will call upon you: hear me. You will multiply virtue in my soul.

7If I wander into the midst of tribulation, you will revive me. For you extended your hand against the wrath of my enemies. And your right hand has accomplished my salvation.

8The Lord will provide retribution on my behalf. O Lord, your mercy is forever. Do not disdain the works of your hands.

Gospel

Matthew 7:7-12

7Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and you shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks, receives; and whoever seeks, finds; and to anyone who knocks, it will be opened. 9Or what man is there among you, who, if his son were to ask him for bread, would offer him a stone; 10or if he were to ask him for a fish, would offer him a snake? 11Therefore, if you, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your sons, how much more will your Father, who is in heaven, give good things to those who ask him? 12Therefore, all things whatsoever that you wish that men would do to you, do so also to them. For this is the law and the prophets.
