First Reading

Revelation 22:1-7

1He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him. 4They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5There will be no night, and they need no lamp light or sun light; for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever. 6He said to me, “These words are faithful and true. The Lord God of the spirits of the prophets sent his angel to show to his bondservants the things which must happen soon.” 7“Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 95:1-2, 3-5, 6-7ab

1Oh come, let’s sing to the LORD.

Let’s shout aloud to the rock of our salvation!

2Let’s come before his presence with thanksgiving.

Let’s extol him with songs!

3For the LORD is a great God,

a great King above all gods.

4In his hand are the deep places of the earth.

The heights of the mountains are also his.

5The sea is his, and he made it.

His hands formed the dry land.

6Oh come, let’s worship and bow down.

Let’s kneel before the LORD, our Maker,

7for he is our God.

We are the people of his pasture,

and the sheep in his care.

Today, oh that you would hear his voice!

Gospel

Luke 21:34-36

34“So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly. 35For it will come like a snare on all those who dwell on the surface of all the earth. 36Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
