Readings for the universal ChurchGeneral Roman Calendar, used by Catholics worldwide

First Reading

Romans 10:9-18

9that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. 11For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him. 13For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher?

15And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace,

who bring glad tidings of good things!”

16But they didn’t all listen to the glad news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

18But I say, didn’t they hear? Yes, most certainly,

“Their sound went out into all the earth,

their words to the ends of the world.”

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 19:8, 9, 10, 11

7The LORD’s law is perfect, restoring the soul.

The LORD’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple.

8The LORD’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart.

The LORD’s commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever.

The LORD’s ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.

10They are more to be desired than gold, yes, than much fine gold,

sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb.

Gospel

Matthew 4:18-22

18Walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men.” 20They immediately left their nets and followed him. 21Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them. 22They immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.
