Readings for the universal ChurchGeneral Roman Calendar, used by Catholics worldwide
First Reading
14For the charity of Christ urges us on, in consideration of this: that if one died for all, then all have died. 15And Christ died for all, so that even those who live might not now live for themselves, but for him who died for them and who rose again. 16And so, from now on, we know no one according to the flesh. And though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know him in this way no longer. 17So if anyone is a new creature in Christ, what is old has passed away. Behold, all things have been made new. 18But all is of God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 19For certainly God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not charging them with their sins. And he has placed in us the Word of reconciliation. 20Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, so that God is exhorting through us. We beseech you for Christ: be reconciled to God. 21For God made him who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the justice of God in him.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 103:1-2, 3-4, 9-10, 11-12
1To David himself. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and bless his holy name, all that is within me.
2Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his recompenses.
3He forgives all your iniquities. He heals all your infirmities.
4He redeems your life from destruction. He crowns you with mercy and compassion.
9He will not be angry forever, and he will not threaten for eternity.
10He has not dealt with us according to our sins, and he has not repaid us according to our iniquities.
11For according to the height of the heavens above the earth, so has he reinforced his mercy toward those who fear him.
12As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our iniquities from us.
Gospel
33Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not swear falsely. For you shall repay your oaths to the Lord.’ 34But I say to you, do not swear an oath at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35nor by earth, for it is his footstool, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king. 36Neither shall you swear an oath by your own head, because you are not able to cause one hair to become white or black. 37But let your word ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ For anything beyond that is of evil.
