First Reading

Exodus 12:37-42

37The children of Israel traveled from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot who were men, in addition to children. 38A mixed multitude went up also with them, with flocks, herds, and even very much livestock. 39They baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought out of Egypt; for it wasn’t leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt, and couldn’t wait, and they had not prepared any food for themselves. 40Now the time that the children of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred thirty years. 41At the end of four hundred thirty years, to the day, all of the LORD’s armies went out from the land of Egypt. 42It is a night to be much observed to the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt. This is that night of the LORD, to be much observed by all the children of Israel throughout their generations.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 136:1 and 23-24, 10-12, 13-15

1Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,

for his loving kindness endures forever.

23who remembered us in our low estate,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

24and has delivered us from our adversaries,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

10to him who struck down the Egyptian firstborn,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

11and brought out Israel from among them,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

12with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

13to him who divided the Red Sea apart,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

14and made Israel to pass through the middle of it,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

15but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea,

for his loving kindness endures forever;

Gospel

Matthew 12:14-21

14But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how they might destroy him. 15Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there. Great multitudes followed him; and he healed them all, 16and commanded them that they should not make him known, 17that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

18“Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,

my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased.

I will put my Spirit on him.

He will proclaim justice to the nations.

19He will not strive, nor shout,

neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets.

20He won’t break a bruised reed.

He won’t quench a smoking flax,

until he leads justice to victory.

21In his name, the nations will hope.”
