Readings for the universal ChurchGeneral Roman Calendar, used by Catholics worldwide

First Reading

1 Timothy 3:14-16

14These things I write to thee, hoping that I shall come to thee shortly. 15But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 16And evidently great is the mystery of godliness, which was manifested in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, appeared unto angels, hath been preached unto the Gentiles, is believed in the world, is taken up in glory.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 111:1-2, 3-4, 5-6

1I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; in the council of the just: and in the congregation.

2Great are the works of the Lord: sought out according to all his wills.

3His work is praise and magnificence: and his justice continueth for ever and ever.

4He hath made a remembrance of his wonderful works, being a merciful and gracious Lord:

5He hath given food to them that fear him. He will be mindful for ever of his covenant:

6He will shew forth to his people the power of his works.

Gospel

John 19:25-27

25Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen. 26When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son. 27After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own.
