First Reading

Zechariah 8:1-8

1The word of the LORD of Armies came to me. 2The LORD of Armies says: “I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.” 3The LORD says: “I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the middle of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called ‘The City of Truth;’ and the mountain of the LORD of Armies, ‘The Holy Mountain.’” 4The LORD of Armies says: “Old men and old women will again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand because of their old age. 5The streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing in its streets.” 6The LORD of Armies says: “If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?” says the LORD of Armies. 7The LORD of Armies says: “Behold, I will save my people from the east country and from the west country. 8I will bring them, and they will dwell within Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.”

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 102:16-18, 19-21, 29 and 22-23

15So the nations will fear the LORD’s name,

all the kings of the earth your glory.

16For the LORD has built up Zion.

He has appeared in his glory.

17He has responded to the prayer of the destitute,

and has not despised their prayer.

18This will be written for the generation to come.

A people which will be created will praise the LORD,

19for he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary.

From heaven, the LORD saw the earth,

20to hear the groans of the prisoner,

to free those who are condemned to death,

28The children of your servants will continue.

Their offspring will be established before you.”

21that men may declare the LORD’s name in Zion,

and his praise in Jerusalem,

22when the peoples are gathered together,

the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

Gospel

Luke 9:46-50

46An argument arose among them about which of them was the greatest. 47Jesus, perceiving the reasoning of their hearts, took a little child, and set him by his side, 48and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great.” 49John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow with us.” 50Jesus said to him, “Don’t forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us.”
