Pope Gregory XIII

Gregory XIII is remembered for the calendar that bears his name. In October 1582 ten days were dropped, so that Thursday 4 October was followed by Friday 15 October, to bring the calendar back into line with the sun. Most of the world uses it today. He also founded colleges in Rome, among them the Gregorian University.
