Pope Pius X

Giuseppe Sarto, a peasant’s son who had been a parish priest, took as his motto “to restore all things in Christ.” He encouraged frequent Holy Communion and allowed children to receive it from the age of reason. He reformed church music, began the codification of Church law, and firmly opposed the errors of Modernism. He died as the First World War began, and was canonized in 1954.
